Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis)
Dr. Cohen is well versed in non-operative and surgical care of Tennis Elbow.
-
Just about everyone has heard the phrase "tennis elbow", but the medical term for this condition is lateral epicondylitis – and it's not just for tennis players. In fact, the majority of people with this have never played tennis. It is a repetitive motion injury to the tendons that connect the muscles in the forearm to the elbow. It can be very painful. It results from overuse of the elbow. This can happen to a lot of people besides tennis players: painters, plumbers, butchers – even excessive computer mouse use can lead to a case of tennis elbow!
-
The most prominent symptom is pain at the outside of the elbow. There may also be pain or burning in the muscles of the forearm, and it may be difficult to lift or grip.
-
Not all tennis elbow problems require surgery. The majority of Dr. Cohen's patients are managed with a course of splinting, therapy, injections and medications. Non-surgical treatment is very successful in most cases of Tennis Elbow. If these methods are not helpful, then surgical options are considered.
